 Pender Island Golf Club - Grounds Superintendent

    

The Position:

The Pender Island Golf Club (www.penderislandgolf.ca) is seeking applicants for the full-time, year-round position of Golf Course Superintendent at one of BC's most beautiful 9 hole public golf courses. This Gulf island jewel is exceptionally challenging yet provides a great recreational destination course for golfers of all levels.

This is a full-time, year-round position with assistance from a part-time paid assistant and a large group of dedicated members/volunteers. The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic and motivated individual who, reporting to and working closely with a volunteer board of directors; will be responsible for all aspects of the maintenance of the 50 acre golf course.

This is an opportunity for the successful candidate to gain excellent hands-on experience, to be his/her own boss, and to enjoy life in the wonderful community of Pender Island, British Columbia.

Duties: (To include but not limited it)

  • All aspects of the care and maintenance of grounds
  • Recruit, supervise, schedule, and retain a maintenance assistant
  • Regularly schedule and supervise club volunteers
  • Manage irrigation systems
  • Plan and budget for additional or replacement capital equipment
  • Control maintenance expenses
  • Develop an annual operating budgeting
  • Service and repair equipment

Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to applicants with a degree or diploma in Turfgrass Management or an associate degree or diploma from a recognized institution
  • Applicants with less than a degree will be considered provided they can demonstrate equivalent experience with a proven record of performance in golf course maintenance and management skills
  • Preference will be given to applicants with at least 3 years of experience as a ground superintendent or assistant grounds superintendent, though applicants with less experience may also apply
  • The candidate must possess and demonstrate a thorough understanding of all aspects of golf course maintenance and management
  • The ability to work with and train staff and volunteers
  • Applicants must have effective interpersonal skills
  • Applicants must be reliable and organized

Compensation:

  • Will be offered $60 - $65K per annum, commensurate with experience. This is a year-round salaried position
  • 3 weeks vacation
  • 1 complementary annual club membership with no entrance fee
