 Kamloops Golf and Country Club - Spray Technician

    

Definition:

The Groundskeeper 4 Spray Technician is under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent or his designate, directs and participates in the maintenance, construction, and improvement projects of the golf course.

Required Qualifications, Training, and Experience:

  1. Valid BC Pesticide Applicator certificate in Landscape – Integrated Past Management
  2. High school diploma or equivalent
  3. Working knowledge of agronomy and Turfgrass management practices and rules of golf. (Relevant post-secondary education preferred)
  4. Working knowledge of methods and materials used in grounds, landscape and building maintenance and construction.
  5. Working knowledge and ability to use hand and power tools and operate equipment.
  6. Physical strength, stamina and agility to perform the duties of the groundskeeper 4, irrigation technician.
  7. Valid Class 5 or equivalent BC driver’s license.
  8. Minimum 5 years’ experience in golf course maintenance or related field.
  9. Ability to follow oral and written directions (English).
  10. Willingness to perform any task that advances Kamloops Golf and Country Club objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Performs all duties of the groundskeeper 3 job description plus all regular maintenance practices required to maintain the golf course, buildings and support structures.
  2. Operates both heavy and light equipment.
  3. Performs all duties associated with golf course construction and improvement projects.
  4. Performs course service duties such as cleaning washrooms and emptying garbage.
  5. Applies fertilizers and chemicals under direction of the Superintendent.
  6. Performs repairs, additions and operation of the irrigation system under direction of the Superintendent.
  7. Carries out hand watering on the golf course playing surfaces.
  8. Occasionally directs and trains fellow employees on proper equipment use and work methods.
  9. Occasionally supervises a small labour force.
  10. Scouts for and reports to the superintendent any irregularities about the course such as irrigation breaks, plant disease, or equipment related problems.
  11. Shall perform other duties as may be required.

Remuneration:

  • $25.12/hr as per collective agreement with CUPE
  • Health and Welfare, Dental plans, Vacation entitlement, and RRSP contributions as per the collective agreement with CUPE

Hours of Work:

  • As per article 17 of the collective agreement

Probationary Period:

  • This posting has a 3 month probationary period. Every effort will be made by the employer to ensure the success of the candidate in their new position. At any time during the probationary either party may request that the candidate return to their previous position without loss of seniority, benefits and or privileges.
