 Capilano Golf and Country Club - Assistant Superintendent

   

Position Overview:

Capilano Golf and Country Club is looking for a motivated, positive and enthusiastic individual who wishes to further their career and reach their potential. The Assistant Superintendent position is an integral part of the five-person Course and Grounds leadership team and is an ideal position for someone looking to develop their leadership and management skills in preparation for becoming a Golf Course Superintendent. Our previous two Assistant Superintendents both successfully moved on to Superintendent positions.

Working alongside one other Assistant Superintendent and reporting to the Course Superintendent and Senior Assistant Superintendent in a decentralized organizational structure, this position is responsible for supervising the maintenance and operation of the golf course and associated facilities. They are responsible for all facets of staff management excluding the technical staff within the department. In the absence of the Course Superintendent and Senior Assistant Superintendent, he/she is expected to make decisions and fill those responsibilities.

Course Information:

Capilano is a private 18-hole facility located in beautiful British Columbia. Constructed in 1938 by esteemed Canadian golf course architect Stanley Thompson, Capilano is continually ranked in the top 10 golf courses in Canada and ranked in the top 100 golf courses in the world outside the United States. Capilano is open to play year-round, with the majority of the 32,000 rounds/year played between April and October. The club is committed to continually restoring and improving the golf course, as part of a Course Long Range Master Plan that has been in place for several years. Continued capital improvement work in 2024 includes further bunker renovation with the Better Billy Bunker method of construction, tree removal, and ongoing preparation for a new irrigation system. Working from a state-of-the-art staff Maintenance Facility and Fleet Maintenance Facility, our high-performance Course and Grounds team is comprised of up to 40 employees who love to work outdoors, enjoy being in the company of others, and who take pride in
their work.

Location:

Located in West Vancouver, British Columbia, the golf course is surrounded by mountains with excellent access to hiking, mountain biking and skiing, and is less than 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver. Continually rated as one of the best cities in the world to live, Vancouver is known for being modern and safe, and has great amenities such as numerous beaches, Stanley Park forest, and quick access to the North Shore mountain range.

Qualifications:

An individual who has graduated with a degree or two-year diploma from a recognized institution and turfgrass related field. 3 years minimum working on a golf course is also required along with a desire to secure a management role and eventually become a Golf Course Superintendent. Valid BC Pesticide license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days.

Compensation:

$60K - $70K salary DOE, benefits, and club matched pension. This position also includes a mobile phone plan, food and clothing allowance and an allowance for moving expenses.
