 Vernon Golf and Country Club - Golf Course Mechanic

    

The Club:

The City of Vernon is nestled in the North Okanagan and surrounded by mountains, lakes, orchards, and vineyards. Vernon is a vibrant community with full amenities, great golf, world class skiing, and is a playground for tourists and locals year-round. The Vernon Golf and Country Club has deep roots in the community and has been in operation since 1913. We are a non-profit club which means all profits go back into the club, towards capital projects, improvements, and equipment. We are a bustling, semi-private golf club with 675 members and a current waitlist of 100. It is an exciting time for the club as we have seen major improvements to the clubhouse and the grounds over the past 2 years.

The Position:

Working under the direction of the superintendent, the mechanic will be responsible for coordinating and performing all preventative maintenance and repair of all golf course equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical problems of all course equipment including utility vehicles, golf carts, small engines and implements.
  • Daily inspection, adjustment and sharpening of cutting reels and rotary mowers.
  • Performing scheduled servicing of all equipment
  • Maintains fuel and fluid levels for all types of equipment and quality of cut.
  • Help train staff on proper equipment use and maintenance procedures.
  • Maintains a safe workplace and keeps equipment in safe operating conditions.
  • Occasionally assists the grounds crew with course maintenance.
  • Keeps detailed maintenance and repair records.
  • Maintains the shop and workspace in an orderly and clean condition.

Requirements:

  • Experience in repairing golf course equipment or relevant mechanical experience.
  • Working knowledge of small gas and diesel engine repair
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic issues.
  • Experience with grinding and setup of both reel and rotary mowers and asset.
  • Welding and fabricating skills an asset
  • Maintains a positive approach with coworkers and is team oriented.

Remuneration:

1. $33.72/hr as per collective agreement with CUPE Local 626.
2. Health and Welfare, Dental plans, Vacation Entitlement, and RRSP contributions as per the collective agreement with CUPE Local 626.

Hours of Work:

40 Hours per week - As per article 17 of the collective agreement with CUPE Local 626.

Probationary Period:

This position has a three (3) month probationary period. Every effort will be made by the employer to ensure the success of the candidate in their new position.
