Report from the Lower Mainland Region

October, 2011

Well the 2011 season has been interesting to say the least.

It started with Chapter President Adam Zubek accepting the Superintendents position at Mississauga Golf and Country Club in January. We wish Adam well and thank him for his hard work as President.

With Adam’s departure, the executive was now down to two members, leaving a challenge to recruit new Board members. I thank Mike Ferdinandi (Vice President) for helping bring Pete Rodrigues (Secretary) and Phil Bunting (Treasurer) on the Board. The new Board has worked on keeping the meetings fresh and interesting for the members.

The spring and early summer weather was some of the best growing weather ever seen here in the Lower Mainland and seemed to make our lives a slight bit easier. The height of the summer season had our courses in top shape and enjoyed by all.

The week of July 18th -24th Rob Barr and Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club hosted the Canadian Open. The course looked great on tv and for those who were able to come and watch live on the course, it was obvious why it was one of the best challenges in the golf season for the Pros. Congratulations to Rob and his Grounds Crew for doing such a fantastic job for the event. What a wonderful way to celebrate Shaughnessy’s 100th anniversary and showcase golf in our part of the world.

Prior to the Canadian Open we had a meeting with an “Inside the Ropes” tour of the course with Rob and event organizers fielding questions from chapter members. We are planning a similar meeting next year when Vancouver Golf Club host CN Canadian Women’s Open in August.

All the best in the upcoming fall and here’s hoping for a mild winter. Cheer!!
