Rivershore Estates & Golf Links is currently seeking a knowledgeable, motivated, & culture-focused individual to join the organization in the role of Assistant Superintendent. Under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, this person would be entrusted to implement turfgrass maintenance practices aimed at optimizing the conditions and playability of the golf course.

Rivershore is located at the foot of sagebrush-covered hills above the majestic South Thompson River, just outside of Kamloops, BC. This Robert Trent Jones Sr. 18-hole design is honest, fair, unpretentious, and generously bunkered.

Position Overview:

The Assistant Superintendent will play a key role in the training, guidance, & development of the Golf Course Maintenance team. They will collaborate with the Superintendent to ensure the day-to-day maintenance of the golf course is completed with proficiency. It is expected that this person conducts themselves with professionalism - acting as a leader for the Turf Care department and representing the golf course Superintendent in their absence.

The Assistant Superintendent will be responsible for assisting with spray applications and records, irrigation repairs & adjustments, training, scheduling, monitoring the general turf maintenance practices, and discussing ways to improve playability and the golf course, all while fostering a positive team environment. Our ideal candidate has a passion for turf management, strong communication & leadership skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the desire to hone ones skills and grow within the turf management industry.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Assist in the general operation of the Golf Course Maintenance department and all related turf management strategies with an aim towards proficiency in all areas
  2. Recruit, train, supervise, & retain Golf Course Maintenance team members on various turf maintenance practices
  3. Maintain & operate the irrigation system. Adjust irrigation programs as required.
  4. Safely handle & apply fertilizer & pesticides, in accordance with federal regulations, to the golf course
  5. Monitor course conditions and playability
  6. Communicate with Superintendent and team members directly, regularly, & respectfully.
  7. Coordinate snow removal and winter maintenance activities when necessary.
  8. Ensure health & safety regulations are adhered to and monitor staff compliance.

Desired Experience:

An individual who has completed a Turfgrass Management program, or equivalent horticulture program is preferred. Individuals without turf schooling, but who have a reasonable amount of experience in the golf course maintenance industry are welcome to apply. The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years work experience in turf care/grounds maintenance, preferably with supervisory experience as a first or second assistant superintendent, or lead hand/foreman. Individuals currently enrolled in a Turfgrass Management program are also encouraged to apply for the role.

Compensation:

$60,000-$65,000 salary DOE (based on experience), competitive benefits package, free golf privileges, 50% off clubhouse meals, pro shop discounts.
